I want to go for a morning walk, after breakfast, before I have any caffeine. This will mean having water with breakfast if I have anything with breakfast. Then do the scenic loop almost every morning before writing. (Or do the scenic loop every afternoon between work and writing when I switch schedules. When I come back from afternoon walk, I can brew some tea.) Due to road construction in the neighborhood, I stopped going for walks this summer. But I’d really like to get back into that — it would be good for writer brain.
What should my writing goal be for each day? Wordcount based, so that I get it done, instead of fooling around all morning instead. I like the sound of five hundred words each morning. It is an achievable goal, especially after not writing much recently.
Where should I track my writing? In my planner. Then I can write down beginning and ending word counts. I may need to skip the walk on mornings I have other things to do, but most weekdays I should be able to accomplish at least this amount of writing.
With these changes to my daily routine, I should be able to finish the first draft of my first science fiction novel over Christmas break. (Bonus, according to the picture above, there should also be plenty of time to play with my kitten Nemo and finish a few small craft kits.)
